Re: Kitchen "Contest"

It's hand-scraped wood

I climbed in there and scraped it myself (we all know this isn't true - as us Americans are WAY to lazy to do the work "ourselves") :ot:

Re: Kitchen "Contest"

Thanks Fletch :D I don't see what you mean about an offset between the diffuse & specular mapping for the floor (other than the fact that it's a bit washed out). Here's the same floor (rest of the room removed from the scene) with an HDR & some reference objects. The specular map is used ALS...

Re: Kitchen "Contest"

I ran upon this post (because it was bumped), and didn't realize the "challenge" was from 2009  So I went about "doing it"... only to later realize (now) that it is A VERY OLD "challenge" LOL... Anyway, thought I'd post this up anyway. I did add/change a few eleme...

Re: Render Farm Build for Twilight and Kerkythea

Mahen, I apologize, somehow I missed your question. Pricing is based on 2 factors (resources consumed & time allotted). On average a single server on my network is equal to around 5-7 "Core i7 3.4Ghz" computers (Core i7 is approximately 8 threads @ 3.4Ghz). So, for the sake of argument...

Re: Accessing Rendering Power

You're definitely making a good argument for your services there Bradley. I would have thought that, because of its scale, AWS would offer cores at a very reasonable rate. What causes them to be so much more expensive? Also, if an animation with animated components is exported to run in KT will it ...

Re: Accessing Rendering Power

yes, you use the animation plugin of your choice (it must support exporting individual scenes for each "move") then you export the animation to KT. HOWEVER, bear in mind that even a simple animation @ 30fps is going to make A LOT of frames - and that exporting them to KT will create a &quo...

Re: Accessing Rendering Power

I have already done this. Aside from the costs involved (approximately 2x the rate of most commercial render farms), the BIGGEST "brick-wall" you must overcome is the issue of network rendering. To take advantage of AWS you would need to export your model to KT, then (if you have the skill...

Re: Win $100 USD - Render Competition

That looks awesome Bradley, I wish I could get my head around applying textures like that. However, as you point out, it would be time intensive to render an animation like that, especially when a lot of inattentive people don't pay attention to the difference. What did you do to the tree in the fo...
