Have you tried opening this discussion on somewhere like Sketchucation? A lot of the members have experience with other software and workflow using Sketchup in conjunction with other 3D modelling packges.

looks like a lot of information in those threads. I need to digest it before I go back to the tech guy who will build the PC. I guess to some degree I will have to trust him to put the right components together based on what I need.

I will give those settings a try. Interesting that you have chosen evening in November for light,the renders look very natural for the UK. I have been using summer settings and the downlights closer to their default. No wonder it was overexposed.
