Have you tried opening this discussion on somewhere like Sketchucation? A lot of the members have experience with other software and workflow using Sketchup in conjunction with other 3D modelling packges.

That's really helpful, thanks . The calculation for processing power makes things a lot clearer. I was just getting overwhelmed by too much choice and too little knowledge. Just been looking at an i7 3770k which sounds like a step up from the 2600k but after doing the maths there's not much in it. ...

looks like a lot of information in those threads. I need to digest it before I go back to the tech guy who will build the PC. I guess to some degree I will have to trust him to put the right components together based on what I need.

Hi Looking at a new PC to speed up render times and wondering if anyone would care to comment on the proposed spec as below. I will give those settings a try. Interesting that you have chosen evening in November for light,the renders look very natural for the UK. I have been using summer settings and the downlights closer to their default. No wonder it was overexposed.

Brilliant renders. Would you mind a few questions? What render settings did you use? When I try to render a room with recessed downlights and daylight on Easy 08 they are way overexposed Where did you get your wood textures? What modelling software are you using?
