As I said, shoji screens nowadays can use plastic instead of washi paper. Here's an attempt with the Realistic Glass > Plexiglass template, 350 passes in Preset Easy 09, exposure 1.5. I also changed the tatami texture and raised the bump in some materials:

In SketchUp, apply the material Cladding_Stucco_White within the Brick and Cladding folder. Now choose the Subsurface...

Re: Rally Van
Wow
Edge lines do make a difference in this model. I'll have to give them a try.
It's looking extremely good so far!

Share photography tips applicable to rendering
I recently bought a PS3 and a racing game, but I stank at it. My cousin came to visit and he picked up the game pretty fast. I don't know how to drive a real car, my cousin does. I guess the same thing goes to Photography and 3D Rendering. For example, Alex from the KT-Team is a photographer, and he...

Re: Playing with SSS and a 3D warehouse model
Solo, perhaps it's just a matter of having the right light sources, as Fletch said, and playing around with the SSS settings. Here's a quick attempt with some seahorses, rendered with Preset 09: seahorses.jpg This time I started with the wax template and used these settings: seahorse-settings.jpg Fo...

Re: Want a fast machine?
Man, when it comes to tech, I really hate to be in Ecuador. Prices are higher due to shipping and customs, and my favorite local distributor (XionPC) currently carries a Core i7 but no compatible motherboard. They also tend to carry LCD monitors with VGA connector only

Inside the fortress
Another one of the inside. Again I stopped after the third pass. This one took 20 minutes and a half in my old Core 2 Duo. For this one I upped the exposure to 1.3. in-SU.jpg in-3passes.jpg As you can see the model was not quite right (no thickness in some elements, reversed faces) and it lacks some...

Playing with SSS and a 3D warehouse model
I used this model: http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=8b9ba88889561329a0633f56ebc04f06&prevstart=0 out-SU.jpg In case anyone happens to be rendering ice hotels, I assigned a "Subsurface scattering > rubber ball" template, with these settings: sss-settings.jpg Used Prese...
