lamp and LED strips
Re: lamp and LED strips
Try this. There's a number of tutorials on the Twilight website.

Re: lamp and LED strips
If using a light emitting texture for the LED strip - you must render with render setting Easy 09 or 10.
For fast rendering of LED strip light, apply a light emitting texture, but set it to "Fake" (only do this if the texture can be seen directly from the camera in the rendering.)
Then, for each LED light source, place a tiny spot-light source. The spot lights will render much more quickly than the LED light emitting surface.

Re: lamp and LED strips
Now you have me questioning, Fletch.
1. Why are you using both types of lighting?
2. Why use the fake emitter only if you can see the texture. What happens if you can't see it?
3. When I run the scene it goes all bright white except the black parts of the emitter surface. It doesn't look like your picture at all.
4. Why when one runs a downloaded SketchUp with Twillight settings does Twilight say the original preset cannot be found?
Thanks,
Peter

Re: lamp and LED strips
Those instructions are only when using Low/+ through High/+.
1. 'Fake' emitter is not actual lighting (unless using Interior). It is only to give the appearance of light emitting from an LED strip. Otherwise, the spotlights will cast light but you won't see any indication of where the light is coming from.
2. You don't need the 'Fake' emitter if you can't see it because it doesn't cast any light. So it's completely pointless.
3. What render setting? If you are using Interior, the 'Fake' emitter will emit light.
4. Twilight Render stores the complete file path to the render setting. If the render setting isn't found in exactly the same place (which is often the case), it will try to match it by name (Low+ on my computer in a different folder than Low+ on your computer). You can usually just accept the replacement without to much worry.

Re: lamp and LED strips
I use Fake Emit when rendering with Easy 01-07 because light emitting surfaces slow down renderings greatly in those render modes.
If you can't see the texture, then don't even put it in... so just use the series of spots like shown in the example file.
The difference in render time is something like 5x faster with fake emit vs light emitting surface in Easy 01-07.
The black part of the png texture file for the LEDs is supposed to be black.

Re: lamp and LED strips
Most of my experience was using fake emitters with interior render settings, so I see now how that makes all the difference. Thanks!
Re: lamp and LED strips
because when you use emitter rendering time even with Low is very slow?
Re: lamp and LED strips
yes. emitters are not optimized in the rendering algorithm for the PM/FG settings - those are Easy 01 - 07.
Easy 08 is for suy/sky only.
So that leaves you with Easy 09-11
Emitters work fine in all render settings, as far as emitting light, they just slow the rendering down in Easy 1-7, in Easy 09 they do not slow it down.
