Skyportals increase render times for Easy 1-7 render settings, as these are photon mapping and final gathering style render settings.
Skyportal is intended for and DECREASES render times with Easy 09 and 10 render settings, as these are Metropolis Light Transport and MLTBiPT render settings, and the more light the better for these settings.

A single strong spotlight, far from the scene and shone directly into the window may render even more quickly to mimic a sun, if you are interested in experimenting. However it is not necessary, the sun alone should be enough... just increase your photon count in the render setting. SEE also:
