Twilight Trees?

Post by marvins_dad » Mon Oct 12, 2009 2:57 pm

I like the way the Kerkythea trees rendered in K - but haven't found a way to bring those into SketchUp.
Is there a chance we will be getting some Twilight Trees at some point...or is there a way to bring in the trees that we could bring into Kerkythea?

a better question: can SketchUp handle one of those trees?

I dunno.

I added a tree that was similar to the K trees...works in SketchUp (if you hide lines), but doesn't render properly in Twilight or K.

Here you go...

I just converted the .tga texture to a .png in GIMP so Twilight could recognize the transparency automatically. This also made the file smaller.

Thanks Miguel, I was just about to post my 'fixed' version and you beat me to it.

I would say that this tree is MUCH smaller than the Xfrog trees, but perhaps I'm wrong? :totgm:

Perhaps SU7.1 can handle the Xfrog trees now... SU7 and earlier could not. :-:

I guess that a combination of...
1. The techniques in Richard Jeffrey's "Tree Factory"
2. Transparent .png maps like the one in this tree
...might produce some superb results.

Yes, it's that Richard, the one who hates bloom. He created a SketchUp file and a tutorial ages ago describing a technique to build trees. The original post and files were lost in the defunct SketchUp forum, but Kwistenbiebel saved a copy of the files and reposted them in the SCF:
http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtop ... 882#p53882
And he has even made a couple of trees with Richard's technique:

Meanwhile, Richard has been thinking about creating a "Tree Factory 2", but has not released anything yet:

Weird... This is how it rendes in my machine. Care to give any more details about preset used / SU version?
Perhaps you made any modifications to the tree I re-posted here?

i'm running xp in parallels and opened it in SU 7.1. before i did anything at all i simply opened TL and hit render. that was it! I should try to bring the file over to the virtual disk first and open it from there.
