Gothic Cathedral
Gothic Cathedral
Klog of the Kerkythea forum shared this model of a Gothic Cathedral for all to render. He also started a thread for it on SketchUcation here.
Here's my very first "stab". I only applied a Thin glass material template to all stained glass windows, and a rough stone template to the floor, polished stone template to the marble... and a couple more templates like this to the other major surfaces. No unique tweaks. Then hit render. I did not touch the sky/lighting at all.
This is a 6hr render on Easy 09.
Next thing to do is to find a better/more interesting camera angle.

Re: Gothic Cathedral
That's why Twilight is such a "Gem". Great results with minimal effort.
Re: Gothic Cathedral
Found this scene view in the model, and went for a "mood".
The cathedrals in Paris felt to me to have high contrast dark and light areas something like this.

Re: Gothic Cathedral
latest looks nice. What is the secret volumetric light?
Re: Gothic Cathedral
"God Rays" (volumetric light) = just 5-10 min. post pro.
Re: Gothic Cathedral
Having more fun with this than I expected. It's pretty much just "open model>hit render wherever you like".
post-pro = tiny lens blur, a little exposure/sharpness, a little noise reduction, glowing light effect from upper windows

Re: Gothic Cathedral
That last one is a cool view. Great texture detail.
Re: Gothic Cathedral
One more
Which is better, the "before" or "after" post processing?
