I'm practicing making lights for Twilight....
Here is a one I made based on this picture by Simon from SCF. Its made with a point light on the inside and a Fast Fake Lampshade material from the Materials Library. It renders differently if using biased vs. unbiased presets, see pics below. If anyone has suggestions on how to make it better, please tell me
Feel free to use in your renders, and remember, I'd be delighted to see the results!
Free Light Component
Re: Free Light Component
Thanks for sharing, Dozer!
Great work!
If you make the glass super thin, but actually have a thickness (approx 1/16" or less... like 1/32"), and apply a lampshade (Opal glass will match Simon's reference pic) material (not the fake one) it will render fine in all settings.
then you may need to increase the power of the light source.
I think the metal is a dark copper in the ref. pic as well.
the fake emitter lampshade materials, as mentioned in the manual, are intended for speed, and therefore intended for Easy 1-8 settings.

Re: Free Light Component
Thanks Fletch, do I apply the lampshade material to both "sides" of the glass then?

Re: Free Light Component
the glass must be a true solid. and no, you only apply it to the front face.
Check the Shura Bauhaus lamp to see how it's done there.

Re: Free Light Component
I finally had time to get back to this.
That Opal lampshade made all the difference, but how do I get the copper material right? I'm using the Metal > Copper Template now.
