A Roman Watchtower

Post by Gaieus » Sat Oct 16, 2010 1:28 pm

I am (kind of) "working" on this project with a Roman re-enactment group here in Hungary. They are located where there used to e a legionary camp (Brigetio, Pannonia) on the bank of the Danube and of course, along the bank, lots of watchtowers, too.

Now they are planning to build a "real" watchtower for themselves (not on an archaeological site though) and asked be to sketch up some ideas for them. Here is a very quick setup/render of the project. Easy 8, 22 passes, ~1h on my dual core at 1024x768. Roman soldiers from the Warehouse (thanks to MorBius - although huge files!!!)

very very nice, you can't claim any longer that you have no render skills, mate!

Hi Guys and thanks...

Kim; the grass is the "default" grass clip and plane that comes packed with Twilight. I used the fur plugin to populate certain areas then put the faces on a hidden layer (with TL rendering them).

Fletch; I really know it's far from perfect. But thanks anyway...

No, it is not a real location (these guys actually want to build it and they would not be allowed to in a real location).

It's also not in the South but in the North (the opposite bank of the Danube is Slovakia already)

Hehe... Certainly not. I tend to neglect PP all the time so it is a kind of refreshment!
