hi res textures

Post by JeZ » Sat Nov 06, 2010 5:39 pm

Does anyone know other texture "manufacturer" than Arroway and Dosch?

I am looking for good quality textures as realistic as possible.

I especially need a walnut texture.

Thanks.

CGTextures indeed has some really nice materials. Not everything is seamlessly tileable however and unless you are a pay member, you can only access the lower resolution ones however many times those are enough (especially with the SU 32 bit memory limitation).

Thanks guys!

I knew CGTextures, but I find it rather time consuming to build myself bump/spec maps, and if it is not even tileable. I think I would prefer to buy a good quality texture. I guess I am not very good at it...

But then, one of my prefered texture is that Trespa white oak texture, which I built the B and S maps myself... I was very sorry to find their walnut texture not tileable... :(

I found another site that looks a lot like CGTextures: texturemate.com

About wood textures: Those "scanned A4 wood veneer" texture are not convincing me at all... I probably never spent enough energy trying to make them work. I'll try those kerkythea mats.

If I find anything interesting, I'll post it here.

Cheers.

I made all the Trespa textures tilable myself.
I meant to share them here, and just haven't posted them yet. (like so many things I've made... that have been 98% finished) :shh:

for smaller surfaces, maybe...

For wood texture, I think it needs long textures, unless very straight grain. Even if it tiles well, a more square texture (image ratio) will always look awkward.

The best wood textures I ever saw are Arroway's, but I dont really like how they did the bump and spec maps (though, it is good enough). The Problem is: they chose very crappy looking board AND they assembled everything with that silly "plank effect" that was trendy for 2 years... :( I am very sorry for them because it could have been such a great product, but obviously they did not know and listen the wrong advice...

Anyway, I think I will try to hack one of their textures, if it works great I'll post a small tutorial 8-)

Cheers.
