The model was pretty easy. about an hour I guess, it'd be quicker if I did it again as I chopped and changed a bit along the way, I made the usual early mistakes of hitting the physics play button and having the whole model fall off the screen   .
Render time was fast, surprisingly so, 2hrs for 600 frames on animate-high, others here would do that faster I think
Blender has built in tools for building movie files out of image sequences so I used that to turn the images into an AVI which only took a few mins then converted to mp4 for the youtube upload (avi was 800mb, mp4 was 1.3mb)

Actually blender has a lot of tools people would like to use even if they don't model in blender, node based compositing with alpha keys on sequences of images merging to different formats of movie file. The interface takes a lot of getting used to but it's worth while. Even if I never model or render in blender again, I'm sure I'll use quite a few of the built in tools with my SU and twilight output.

That's great. Reminds of an old Archer McClean game that I can't remember the name of?

There's a very fun game called "slickball" out there... it's a little bit like this.
