Lobby Stair

Post by JCA131 » Thu Dec 23, 2010 4:18 pm

Modeled this like 2 years ago and just found it last week and thought it would be a nice one to develop... still needs work with materials (mainly the stairs) and some sharp edges, etc... Thoughts or comments on material/model/lighting changes?

Easy 09, about 250 passes, some work in photoshop to brighten the image.

I really like the sun lighting on the couch and plant in the corner. The lights above the painting seem overly bright for the scene.

Excellent work!

Tough to critique... ;)

You already mentioned sharp corners.
The thing that draws my eye most in a negative way is the fire on the far left fireplace glass - seems odd. And the fire should be producing more light inside the fireplace.

I've actually seen a u shaped stair done with no supports. Just very strong connections top and bottom... Probably requires more strength in the stairs themselves though. Also I immagine it would need to be limited to two sets of risers instead of three... Either way you are correct. These look a slight bit impossible.

Of course it is possible to have cantilivered stairs but we are talking about these ones here. As they stand they would buckle. They also look like timber construction pretending to be steel.

Thats the great thing about CG :) it doesn't have to work in real life, just ask Escher! ;)

Escher not the most appropriate example but I do know what you mean. However to get photoreal feel one ultimately has to do what is phisicaly correct.
