Some Romanesque

Post by Gaieus » Wed Feb 09, 2011 8:42 am

I made this overnight. Obviously I had no time to texture correctly but the clay renders came out so dark that I finally grouped the whole thing and painted with some (quite neutral) stone material. It came out surprisingly well (did they do something with SU???). Obviously the arches are not correctly textured and such - but if you look at the SU output, you can see that I have prepared arches (to be textured later).

The whole model was not really made for rendering so bear with the low poly curves.

i reckon the curves render quite well when considering the number of segments...

....nicely executed geometry (you are becoming the master of this)

....can't wait to see the finished piece

Well, it will be for GE actually.
See the GPR survey image overlay for GE attached below too (well, kmz is not an allowed attachment so rename the zip to kmz if you are curious)

Here is another shot of the western side (some details are still to come later)

Hi Gai, just so that you are aware, the clay render settings do not multithread (engine limitation). so it's faster to just paint the scene with a color as you've done and render with Med or Med+
But you can HALF your render times by simply dragging your sun slider to 7 instead of default 50. It will not only render in half the time, but the soft shadows look better. ;)

Yes, I know that clay is single threaded (it was not a time issue however). Also, I lowered the sun as the soft was too much (and especially for the below image where I wanted the "rays" of the rose window to show in the sanctuary, I needed it pretty low).

I enjoy this project a lot but I doubt I will create a full fledged version (one has to eat first and only play afterwards). :)

(I'll also need some more subtle marble - although right in the vicinity, almost an exactly same kind of marble is quarried - and some better tiling floor)
