animated video

Post by Ron_Bruins » Sun Jul 10, 2011 8:28 pm

Hi,

I ran into this video on youtube and was wondering if it would be possible to create such a video/animation with twilight...

Starts from 3.10 for the 3D part...

Cool video. The issue would be more about finding a plugin for SketchUp that can do that level of animation! Twilight can render whatever is in SketchUp, but doesn't provide geometry animation directly.

I agree with Chris' comments. If you can animate it in SketchUp, Twilight can render it.

Wondering what software they use though...

I tried today a bit with SU and the proper animation plugin, then rendered it with twilight, but eventhough this might pull it of in a way, it will become too complex for SU to handle I suppose.

I'm sure it was Max or Maya.
There's no way SketchUp could handle that kind of video. But if it could, Twilight could render it. ;)

We were involved in a round about way for something on this scale several years back.

The software used was primarily AutoDesk "stuff" - almost a bit of everything in their program array - and some very serious render farms.

There were ocean shots, "buildings growing" - everything you see here and more along with some shots that incorporate "live" models; also work by one or two Hollywood special effects studios.

Total budge was somewhere in the 300-K range. It was for a Japanese firm. Took about a year to complete and there were 30-to-40 people working almost full time.

It's a huge undertaking.

So twilight is up to autodesk level, only SU is the bottleneck here
The chain is as strong as the weakest link ;)
