Back Alley

Post by continuousqa » Sun Apr 07, 2013 5:58 am

I was inspired by this b/w photo, for the concept of a back alley.

Really nice, lots of details, nice textures :hat: !
but something stick into my eyes... is the contrast between high detail of the tree in the background (i don't know if is hdr or post-pro) and the lack of details in foreground:
-pallet planks have edges too perfect, all is too flat, despite the awesome texture on it;
-electric box has no detailed geometry, it's clear that is only a flat box, textured;
-window bars are too smooth/thin;
And generally it needs more bump-mapping. Ideally would be to use normal maps, but at this moment, Twilight cannot support them (only KT), so try to squeeze the most from bump-mapping made right.

I also like the grass, despite the one in foreground looks cartoon-ish, but I think it adds a + to the artistic quality of the model.

Thanks for the feedback dereeei. I totally agree. the trees were hdr, but yes, they are too crisp. I'll try and incorporate your feedback into the image. thanks again for the great ideas.

Thanks guys,

I updated the image a bit. I thought it was a bit dark, so I lightened the curves a bit, and made a few post processing changes.

Do you think the changes add or take away from the original?

Great job. I really like scenes like this.
So much work on the details that really make it look good.
