Midnight Alley
Messing around with lighting and making bump maps for the photos.
Re: Midnight Alley
For the most part, your bump maps are extremely convincing! Well done. The only one that looks a little off is the brick in the upper center, because it's a little too glossy. Even so, very good.

Re: Midnight Alley
Thank you so much Chris. Do you mean the second building?

Re: Midnight Alley
Really like this scene. Like the post lights but color or brightness seem off. Could be me though.
Nice work

Re: Midnight Alley
Thanks Jpalm.
I reused the component light from another scene that I had.
There is a point light inside of the enclosure. The enclosure is using SSS Lamp shade material.
I wanted to see if a bunch of them would be able to light up the entire scene without sunlight or an HDR for the night shot.
Still a work in progress. I still have a bunch of buildings to put on the right side so it looks like an actual alley way.
P.S. I haven't seen any of your work lately. Are you waiting for the next version?
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Re: Midnight Alley
In the real world there's always some ambient light coming from someplace.
For best results I think you will want to have some sort of sky lighting. Maybe start with the moonlight tip and tweak the settings to suit your image. These settings below are just a starting point.
Then I would lower the brightness/power of these street lights to look realistic, then adjust the brightness/exposure of the final rendering later.

Here's a place to start to create a moonlight effect using Twilight's Physical Sky.
- Set your Sun in SketchUp where you would like to have the Moon shining.
- Set your Sun and Sky Parameters as shown here.
Sun Color = 255,237,193
Sun Radius (Sunlight Slider) = 10 (use arrow keys on your keyboard for fine tuning)
Maximum Sun Intensity = 0.8
Sky Brightness = .2
Sky Turbidity = 3
After your rendering is complete, be sure to do some polishing of the overall tone/color of the image in an image editor.

This scene is going to get better with those buildings. It has a London or Boston feel. Mabe some ship docks?mgiambrone43 wrote:Thanks Jpalm.
