House - 2 Story - and Pool
House - 2 Story - and Pool
Here we go again...
In my last one, I wasn't happy with the 'cheap' way to do tile roofs. So this time, leveraging hidden layers in the clay tile component, I built a tile, and a ridge (top corner) tile for the roof, and an endcap. Then, while working in SketchUp, I only see a few layout lines of the tile, but when it renders in Twilight, it renders the full tile.
Here's the result... a SketchUp screenshot I will not likely be this close to the roof, but wanted to give it a good challenge.
Here's the full res of just the roof, no post pro (right-click>view image) Here's a reduced view of more context. about the corner stone quoins the question is still out... don't ask!
About render times - definitely go UP with all these polys... there are over 4100 clay tiles, not counting the ridges and endcaps. But they were actually pretty EASY to insert/build the roof... surprisingly easy...

Looks great, nothing beats raw mesh, so how many faces is the model?
Now the downspouts.

Re: House - 2 Story - and Pool
The roofing is AWESOME...!!
I believe it would add to realism, if you add some dust to the roof material (I.e. using a procedural), but it should only be subtle...
Looking forward to see the future progress you're making with these...

Re: House - 2 Story - and Pool
I will be turning the roof grey for the final render, and post-pro the actual color... because they will actually have the 'old look' clay tiles that are popular here in Istria.
Re: House - 2 Story - and Pool
Well, this became a 3 Story house, and I had to COMPLETELY rebuild the roof...
Here's how the final turned out. Hope you like.
I did four images, but this is the only one I liked.

Trying out Tomsdesk's new oak trees on this scene.
Here it is, zero post-pro. What do you think? (scroll down!)

Re: House - 2 Story - and Pool
Here it is with a tiny bit of post pro as described in the Post Pro Secrets.
before releasing the 'final' I would add proper 3D grass on lower right.
currently it uses the Twilight grass plane along the bottom edge of the wall... but is clearly not "enough" to be convincing.
I would add more flowers, etc. on left retaining wall, too... but this was about the trees...
