That material doesn't exist as a template in Twilight.
I find that using the Ceramic Template and Setting Shininess to 6000 can be somewhat successful.
I typically use, for Shiny Plastic, a shininess of 600 (default for that template is 180)
The nice thing about templates is they are just a suggestion, and there's a lot that you can change with it by changing the IOR or shininess.

you can, for black shiny plastic use the Library materials that come with Twilight.

You can use Kerkythea's advanced material editor to create anything you lack in Twilight, save the material libary, and use it in Twilight.

This shiny plastic/back painted glass types of materials is a template planned for future version of Twilight.
In the meantime, we may put together a special library.

It would help in putting the library together if you had a link to a good color palette you need.

Would a library of this type of material using this palette be sufficient?

NCS

The only color palettes I know are kind of big. I think RAL is the smallest.

Personally, I think I would prefer to know how to do it than having a library...

Near off topic opinion:
It is somewhat easier at the beginning to have templates and libraries, but i think it can soon become :wall: when I cant fix something, because theres not much to understand.

Anyway, thanks again for your help.

Agree, it's frustrating anytime one doesn't understand something.
I will provide a library based on the Parapan color pallette.
Then you can use it in Twilight.
You can go to Kerkythea.net and download the program for free, open the same material library and change any color to any color you like.

Twilight IS a super easy - fully integrated solution for getting Kerkythea into SketchUp. But we deliberately left out the complex/deep material editor because (guessing) 90% of KT users don't even use most of what's available there... or when they need something 'unique' it is quite rare.

This is a good example of a material that will become a template in the future.

JeZ, I place this here for the benefit even of those without access to the Red Carpet Section of the forum...

This is what the Ceramic Template looks like, so that you can compare.
Look at the Shininess Values and the IOR Values for each version... these numbers are very important! When using this ceramic behind the glass, one must MATCH the IOR of the glass material used... otherwise unexpected results can occur. Here, we use 1.52 (standard Index Of Refraction/Reflection for glass).

Same model as posted above... please try for yourself!
These examples were rendered with Easy 09, but these materials render great in any method.

Very interesting...

Would it be the same for other templates, like the plastic template?

And what is the material you put on the edges of the horiz. panel? colored ceramic or glass?

Thanks a lot for the library, it looks great! I am currently rendering that offseted pyramid door buffet (or whatever you want to call it :? ) and will post results...

Thanks a lot!

I painted the entire top panel with the SU color for the gloss acrylic material. (same material that is painted on the back of the other panels.)

I invite you to download the model with the acrylic on it, and change it to the material template with settings as shown as above and see/test the shiny plastic template.

My suspicion is they are similar but not the same. I have not tested it, and am not sure at the moment.

For Paint and Plastic Template, it works the same.
Only, it's faster if you use the Plastic>Shiny Template because it defaults to 1.52 as the IOR, so you don't need to change it, only the shininess.

Ive done some testing and wow...

If I remember well I started with the flat plastic template and then changed ior and shininess values.

All rendered with easy prelim

This is very interesting how the light slowly exits more through the edges.

I dont know yet which settings would be best

(3 others following in next post)

***Post edited for future reference***
Top panel is High gloss reflective acrylic (lime green, I think)
Front and side panels are:
front face -->common glass
edges and bevels --> green common glass, as in the Bauhaus lamp model
Back faces are painted with the material being modified here.

Cheers.
