Hi guys,
I haven't been using SU / TL quite a while...
Now with these dark winter days I'd like to start modeling again.
I'm working on my first car, using a tutorial by "Ixlrlxi" for guidance. (This guys has some awesome renders!)
First quick render:
Best,
Ward

Hi Ward! Nice toony look you've got going there. Try different values of shininess and IOR. Shininess of 100000 and IOR of 3 will maybe look more metallic... but maybe not very "toon-ish".

Re: My first SketchUp car!
Thanks for you comment Fletch, I've tried some renders with your suggested settings.
An update!
I'd like to try to bumpmap some parts of the car but its not really working out...
On the right hand side in the preview the bumpmap is visible, but no sign of it in the rendered image.

Re: My first SketchUp car!
That car is looking pretty
First - make sure you use the eraser and hold CTRL button down to smooth the lines on the car where they need to be smooth.
Next - make sure the car body is inside of a group or a component and then it will render smooth
Finally - The bump map will need to be painted onto the tire by you so that it is correctly scaled and positioned to act properly for you.
Then apply the plastic>flat template to it, then LINK the bump channel to the texture in Sketchup and then UNlink the COLOR channel from the color in SketchUp. Give the tire color to be something of a warm dark gray - try something like
Don't forget you can download hundreds of car paints created by Majid here.
Maybe try the frosted glass template for the yellow tail lights/head lights. (I have little experience rendering cars)

Re: My first SketchUp car!
Thanks again Fletch.
First tip works great, smoothing certainly makes it look better.

great - now the same material that you have on the bumper can go on the wheel rims, grill, around headlights, etc.
Try the Translucents Material Library - there is a car glass material.
try medium + or high + for better fuzzy reflections.
