Animated GIF in SketchUp

Post by Gaieus » Wed Dec 01, 2010 11:07 pm

[Plugin] jpg_gif @ SCF.

Animation export works both with a raw SU output and with Twilight render. :^:
See example anmation attached - gif.avi is Twilight and tanec.avi is SU. The GIF file is very pixelated but I wanted to test quickly.

Now let's find some nice fire flame animations for fireplaces, candles, torches, running tap water and such!

Great news, thanks Gaius! :^:
I believe one can convert a short .avi to .gif with Virtual Dub, and have their animated TV now.

That, too, I would rather animate flames for my usual projects (anything older than a TV)
I just cannot for my life find a nice, animated flame with transparent background. I saw a couple of nice ones but all come with some background and I cannot remove it nicely. :(

well, it's not a .gif, but if all you need is an animated fire in SketchUp I am sure you remember this one.

Here, I made the transparent animated fire .gif for you from the .tif files from the .skp file above.
Hope it works for you, sorry it's so low res, but that's the only animated fire I have. :?
I will provide the .psd if you need it.

Sahi has edited his post ever since and added a tutorial video. It seems that not only animated gif can be placed there but any kind of image sequence.

Your fire renders nicely with a single, green colour!

Try these... I think they should work. It is free download. It only requires registration.

Yes, I know that site, thanks. eventually I will download a couple of series there, make the background colour (black) transparent and use the image series this way. I have not bought the plugin yet but I definitely will (say on Monday or Tuesday as I need to buy a washing machine first because ours has just died...)

Fletch, as I wrote, something went wrong with this file for me. Maybe I screwed up something so I will try again. Thanks.
_______

What I hope to achieve is to get a flame with a couple of images in the series and make each image an emitter. Will they emit only where they are visible or will they emit a general amount of light per their size? (In which case I will be testing it to give some different amount of lighting power based on the flame size). So basically I would like to achieve an effect that the lighting is dependent on the fire as it is "dancing".

Yes, maybe an overkill but for short (couple of second long) shots in an animation while the camera is around the fire, it could be very nice. Anyway, if I get something nice, I will of course report it back here with how-to's and the result.

it is NOT in the .skp file, you must download the .gif file from the link above, and insert it into your scene. I'm fairly certain you have not tried the .gif file provided above.
