Kitchen progress

Post by micahman5000 » Mon Jan 09, 2012 4:28 pm

Here is a kitchen that we are working on. This is with interior progressive and has over 800 passes. I still need to work out materials all over the place. Most everything here is just a place holder. Any suggestions would be nice.

My first impression a good one. 800 Passes :o - very much. I believe possible the shortest time. Needed to reduce the size of door textures. Will be more realistic if the texture is oriented by the door frame (look http://twilightrender.com/phpBB3/viewto ... 913#p19913). There is something wrong with the lights in the ceiling. Faucet is very dark, and personally for me is a very small sink (why red?). Personally, I do the kitchen door without a bump texture. Looks strange worktop edge (check geometry)

Thanks alvydas. 800 passes was just because I let it run over the weekend. I agree the textures on the cabinets need work, and I want to spend a good amount of time working on it. We are actually getting the 3d drawings from the installing contractor so these where just place holders until I get them. What about the lights don't look right? I'm using IES lights and they seem good to me, maybe to bright? The sink on the island is speced out that small and it was supposed to be bush hammered copper but came out red. Some textures got messed up and you can really see it on the edge of the counter top. I have to reverse the face and see what the problem is.

My first impression is also very good. :)
I think the counter top could be shinier. Isn't is a polished marble?
Look at all the texture mapping on different surfaces... it looks fine in SU, but then when you render it you really notice where they need help. (wall base, for example)

Micah

That's a great improvement on your previous render. :^:

You still need to amend the orientation of the wood grain on the doors and cornice. The books do not look realistic enough but on the whole it's a great render

Very nice, Micah! :^:
The brick in the recessed ceiling is... confusing. The red knobs on the stove seem to be oversaturated-red.

Thanks guys. I need to work on the wood grain a bit and the books. That range is a Wolf Rang and I think it matches. I agree on the ceiling, but that is what the interior designer wants. We do that a bit out here in Palm Desert, CA. Mainly on curved ceilings. Do you guys have any good resources for wood grain textures? I've tried out a lot but what happens is that it gets to repetitive and you can read the pattern in the cabinets.

Verticality of the edges is a mus (try to re-adjust the cam ot use 2 point perspective)
The wood texture is too big compared to realit
Marble top needs more reflection
Cieling spot lights are not all lit (any reason)
The oven hood would look better is SS
the ceramic behinf the kitchen cabinte would look better if tiled
Hood luck
