Comedy Cellar

Rendered on easy 09 for 10 passes.

May try to go for a neon look on the emitter sign.

Looks good, but pay attention to the wood material. In general the wood grain follows the length of the element.

Yes. Thank you.
I forgot to change the uv mapping on the stool legs during first render.

I should have caught that.

Better, now improve the model of the microphone stand base, and stool.

Fletch:

Wow!

Thanks for the Neon Lights thread. I will definately use that one!!

Yes, I notficed the base of the stand needs some smoothing.

The top of the stool was using the Shiny Plastic template. Think I was going for a vinyl look.

The stool legs could be rounded on the edges perhaps? They are very sharp.

Thanks for the great tips.

Use Artisan for better smoothing  great idea. You should place someone on that chair to bring the atmosphere much more ;)

This scene has potential. I really like the idea of taking a simple scene and working on it to learn to use a software like this. :^:

I think you should develop further the model of the mic stand, stool, and microphone. both of them are very simple to make in SketchUp, so starting over, and making them better will not take long at all.
Next, nailing down the materials for each to look as good as possible.
Check out Tips and Tricks Master List for modeling and materials tips.
Next, find the most intriguing camera angle possible. This is very important and this alone could take a long time, but every minute doing this will be valuable in all future renderings.
Next, use Twilight's depth of field (DOF) in the camera settings to render maybe an interesting closeup of the mic, with the stool in the background, and just the right amount of reflection from the lit sign on the wall. Just an idea.
Maybe a bit of blood on the floor from a previously failed act?
