Trees making drawing massive

Post by WestCoast27 » Thu Feb 20, 2014 7:44 pm

Hi,

I've started using 3d trees and bushes in my SU model and then rendering it.
It takes forever.
My drawing size went from 31mb to 115mb with the trees.
Is there an easier way to handle this.
I heard something about using proxy's.

Would like some advise
Kind Regards

absolutely.
Create a new layer in your SketchUp file. Call it "3DTree".
Open on of the 3D tree components and place the contents inside of it onto this 3DTree layer.
Create a new layer in your SketchUP file. Call it "tree-lines".
Draw with only about 6 lines a very rough stick tree approximating your tree... make sure they don't make a "face".
put those lines on the "tree-lines" layer.
turn off the 3DTree layer in your SketchUp model.
now you just see a few lines representing each tree.
now you can work in the model.
Right-click the component choose Twilight>"Render all layers in component"
now when you render, it will render the 3DTree geometry, and ignore the lines, because the lines do not form any faces in 3D.
