I know, I know.....

Post by Mike1158 » Tue Mar 01, 2022 1:48 am

Well I am not going to say it because it is the ki55 of death to projects when I do so, for your delectation and delight is, not do NOT say it please, another car.

I am adding details so as not to overburden my old pc, one at a time. Each time wondering how much detail I need for realism. Getting there. Shut lines and component lines are the hardest because making a part of the component a darker colour has consequences on the angles you can render from or it looks like someone has taken a marker pen to a cardboard cutout.

Anyway I put the car through Twilight because3 this is where imperfections in the bodywork show up and I get a better idea of where faults lie, or where I forgot to delete a component/group copy. I WILL be rendering this properly.

The car in question is under 11.5 feet long is a touch under 4.5 feet tall and about 5 feet 3 inches wide so not big. There will be a four cylinder (2 Cylinder) boxer engine between the rear wheels with fuel tank and batteries under the interior floor. There is reasonable space for five and when I get the engine right, there will be a standard rear located boot/luggage area. This is rather small at the moment but the engine requires work yet. All suspension and drive shafts are in place and the steering column requires just a small tweek for the shaft to fit. Right now if you sat in the drivers seat it would 'split the difference and be very uncomfortable.

For the proper render I am thinking a studio (Physical) and a floor of the wet tarmac that is on the forum here somewhere.

Not quite Mr J's trams but it keeps me out of trouble and everyone else's hair for the most part.

Any thoughts are welcome, I am still uncertain on how to model the side moulding gaps but I am going to thunk a bit and see where that gets me. Right now a cup of herbal tea and a read of Mr Pratchett to wind down before sleep.

I hope you are all safe, wherever you are folks. :hat:

Just keeps looking better to me. Pretty soon I expect to see it drive by my house. :hat:

I am particularly impressed with the deaptails of the wheels. Will be interesting to see what you come up with for the side panels.

Now to come up with a setting to place the car in. Looks like something I would expect to see in a hilly densely populated city. :)

Okay Mike, won’t say the “c” word. It’s a jellybean with wheels right ? :! Looking good so far. Hope you put it in some kind of “zooming” down the road type of scene . :^:

Jellybean, really! I was going for broad bean myself but, I'll take it.

Thank you. Coming along slow but I have it easy compared to the folk in the Ukraine.

Does anyone have any suggestions on headlight lighting. I have mucked about with them before but variable results Interior and instrument lights too and planning a night short with open doors etc.

Stay well folks. :hat:

Mike, don’t take the “jellybean” comment the wrong way. The custom car , hot rod crowd here in the U.S of A. thinks most new cars sort of resemble jellybeans or speed bumps ;) . Your question about the headlights is that modeling ideas or how to light them up in the render ?

I like the headlights in this thread:
Subject: '57 Chevy

and maybe this:

Mr 'T', sorry mate I took the comments as humour and replied in kind, well I tried to. Sorry mate.

I am very much an amateur here and have to laugh if I go back over old topics but I am not going to be too serious about it as it is a hobby and a bee stuck in my 'bonnet'.

Thanks for the links Fletch I'll have another look at those and try to get bits and pieces from them.

Stay well folks.

No worries Mike. Wasn’t sure if you ever had heard the jellybean comparison before. Back to more important things … your model… I wonder if searching around the internet might turn up some i.e.s. files for modern headlight bulbs :!

Thanks mate, I continue to look for inspiration. Making them work in Twilight will be interesting but I will post progress as I have it. :hat:
