My first render attempt.
Please bear in mind I'm a complete rendering noob!
I know there is quite a lot wrong with this, but I am playing and trying to get used to things and I am pretty happy with this.
It's a kitchen model I found on 3DWH that I added a few things to. I could play with the model more and make things more realistic and detailed, but my aim was more to play with the rendering and material settings.
I downloaded a hdri for the background which does not look good through the windows, but it gave me much better light.

Re: Kitchen
<picks up jaw from the floor> If you consider yourself a rendering noob and yet you can do this wonderful render with a model from the Warehouse, I better consider a career in cleaning houses.
Re: Kitchen
very nice start, Dylan! You are a natural!
Yes, with improved model, and a few tweaks, and perhaps better camera FOV (field of view, you could try "70" or even bigger in SketchUp?)
I'm presuming the odd caustic sparkles are being generated by the HDR background image. Would be interesting to test in comparison with one of the probes...
Using a subtle Edge Line on the cabinetry to soften the corners a smidge may improve the look drastically. (along with some model improvements.)

Re: Kitchen
Thanks guys.
Yes the caustics are from the hdr background because all prevoius renders and tests in this scene did not show them up.
I used 45 degree fov. I shall try making this bigger.
Fletch the edge lines you mention, how do I add these? I realize I can export from SU and overlay lines, but do you mean I can do something from within TR?
Any suggestion on a more suitable water texture for sink water? I guess I could just use a light grey translucent and add water from template. What do you think?

Re: Kitchen
No need for post pro of edge lines
See the "Edge Lines" section of the Reference Section of the User Manual.

Re: Kitchen
Well I played around, but I did not improve it!
I created a better water in sink though
This one is a wider fov, same hdr background so still lots of caustics. I forgot to try Fletch's suggestion of the probes.
Need a better floor texture I think, but may move on to a different model!
Tried playing around with edge lines. The higher units without and the units below worktop turned on. I forgot there was a setting for edge line thickness.

Re: Kitchen
For wood floor with shiny finish, start with the plastic template.
Don't forget reference section of the user manual gives indications for thickness of edge lines, so that you can know the exact size you are using. If you downloaded this from the warehouse, be sure it's scaled correctly to real world units.
