130 Free XFrog Trees
130 Free XFrog Trees
Massimo found this link... thanks Massimo!
130 free trees from Xfrog.
http://www.xfrog.com/2011/01/130-free-x ... available/
Be careful with them if you are able to import them into SketchUp, they can be very poly heavy. But they render great with Twilight. Try putting the geometry on a hidden layer inside of a component with a few lines to outline a rough shape of the plant/tree. Then right-click the component and find the "render all layers in component." See detailed tutorial here.

Re: 130 Free XFrog Trees
There is a free OBJ importer here.
We have not tried it with the xfrog .obj files, hope it can work for you. If so, let us know.

Re: 130 Free XFrog Trees
Works great. Imported the smallest nice-looking "bush" I could find.
Import object with Textures as shown (see link to free plugin by TIG above)
Import with Textures
After it imports, it doesn't look pretty in SketchUp, but no attempts to fix it were successful. ThomThom's UV tools fail on this one. (EDIT - UV TOOLS WORKS PERFECTLY see below)
Select all>Smooth (optional)
Render.
no material templates applied.
THIS FILE IS ONLY ONE TEA BUSH AND IS 8MB! It was the "AG02_1.obj" file at 1.2 mb.

Re: 130 Free XFrog Trees
Can you be more specific to what you mean by fail?
Error messages?
Unexpected results?
Does it happen on all models you try, or just this one?

Re: 130 Free XFrog Trees
Well why not using the 3ds format to import the trees in SU with the native importer?
A quick image with no changes no templates and only maps that come with the 3ds model.

Re: 130 Free XFrog Trees
After running CleanUp and UV Toolkit:
Though a bit poly-heavy...
Code: Select all
========================================
Model Statistics
----------------------------------------
Untitled
========================================
Edges 147891
Faces 85672
Triangles 114015

Re: 130 Free XFrog Trees
Excellent, Massimo!
So .3ds import or .obj import with Textures works.
Either one renders perfectly with Twilight.
by "fail" I mean...
so sorry ThomThom! My mistake.
I was choosing "backface to frontface" and instead I should have been choosing "Front Face to Backface" - which of course works PERFECTLY.
