Small suite (my first rendering)
Small suite (my first rendering)
Hi All, this is my first post and my first rendering. I have been reading through this forum like crazy trying to learn as much as I can. Most of it is way over my head but trying to figure things out as I go. Still working on the lighting, any critique is appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Small suite (my first rendering)
Nice image, but the only thing i don't like is the lighting of the lamps on the wall.
Perhaps you should use ies ligths to make it softer and better

Ciao Pingo,
Really great first render, congratulations!
To take it up to the next level, here are some things to think about...
Comments about lights on during day time
Subject: Interior Renderings - Exposure for Background Outside
Subject: Soft Shadow Radius for Sun, Spot, Point Lights IN DEPTH
Green Edged Glass or Subject: Glass with Green Edge like a Table Glass Top

Re: Small suite (my first rendering)
Thank you so much for your feedback! I think I'm in way over my head. I've been working on this today and have softened the edges of the walls, changed some of the lighting as suggested but now I have a few walls that are coming out black and no matter what lights I add, they remain black. I've double checked to see that the material is the same as the other walls and it is. Any ideas what I might be missing?
Re: Small suite (my first rendering)
Do not soften the corners! Softening 90 degree corners will really mess things up.
Use the Roundcorner Plugin (free by Fredo) to bevel the edges.

No! You're doing great.Pingo wrote:I think I'm in way over my head.

Sorry, maybe I didn't use the right lingo. I did use the roundcorner plug in but I didn't bevel, I rounded them. So I should have bevelled them instead? (Thanks for your help!)
Re: Small suite (my first rendering)
I couldn't figure out why I had black walls so I just drew them again. I've added a light emitter in the back hall, above the bed and behind the camera. Still some funny shadows and now my couch looks plastic lol. I've rounded some of the furniture edges as suggested but when I try to round the edges of the walls crazy things happen. Will have to figure that one out. So back to the drawing board!

Re: Small suite (my first rendering)
Looking nice!
One of the things that still sits "funny" with me is where your main light source is coming from. The strong directional shadows under the furniture and on the middle wall lead one to believe it's from the sun. But there are no shadows indicating windows... It could be the entire face of the wall behind the camera is one huge window, which isn't unheard of. But that 'wall of glass' look wouldn't fit with the rest of the scene, imo.
Just my personal opinion, but you might try making a quick wall with some window openings and positioning it behind the camera to add another element to the lighting.

Re: Small suite (my first rendering)
Your exactly right, there is an entire wall of windows behind the camera. Will try adding them and see what it looks like. Thanks!

Notice that even with radius as low as 20, the shadow is quite soft. Radius of 10 for sun is ideal for full-daylight situations with exterior renderings, and less than 20 for interiors.
