SketchUp 8 M2
Re: SketchUp 8 M2
Several people have reported odd things happening with SketchUp 8 M2.
Mainly, when opening Twilight Render or other SU plugins, they get white screens, or are not able to browse for textures. Sometimes SU will just Bugsplat and crash.
It appears something is going odd in some cases when updating from v.8 M1 to v.8 M2 that is causing the number of User Object handles for SU to jump extremely high (above 9500). This leaves users with the ability to only use one or two very small plugins before SU will run out of User Objects hitting the limit of 10000 and crashing/freezing, or experiencing degraded performance. A proper installation of SU when first opened should use less than 200 User Objects.
It appears the fix is basically simple.
To verify if the problem is with User Objects, you can open your Task Manager in Windows, click the processes tab, choose "View Menu>Select Columns" and choose "USER Objects". When opening SU, you can see in the User Objects column how many are listed for SU. A clean install with no plugins should be easily less than 200. With 50 plugins installed, it may reach up to 800 or more... still a long way to the 10000 limit.
