BMW M5 F11 Remodel + Renders

Post by kronox » Sat Mar 16, 2013 12:14 pm

Hi guys.

Few days ago found this M5 on the warehouse and decided to play with it a little. Had to some tweaks on the body because of some annoying sharp edges where rounded shapes met and made the model look bad. Credits go to mandun (I think) for the model, oyil for the ROTA Torque rims. Could it become a Stanceworks car ? :D

Fixed some issues on the back lights. Some portions don't light up well or don't light at all... might be a bug or something...

Here the shape of the led light is complete, in a larger render doesn't light up completely.

very nice!
Too bad for the segmented wheel well curves.

The back light may just be refracting through the thick part of the cover glass at that angle. You may need a different material for the cover glass, try a different IOR, like default is 1.52, try 1.4, 1.3, 1.2, 1.1 (1.0 = IOR of AIR, i.e. no refraction)

Oh yes, it would catch damage, but that's why they made controlled suspension for these kind of cars  ...or you could use a ramp if it exists

Fletch : Thanks ! And that problem, I solved it. That side of the lampshade over the light was a reversed face, because on switching to monochrome view, it showed to be blue. Also removed the red lampshade which reduced the processing time of the whole scene to 33 seconds (than 56 seconds). Thanks for the hint.

I like the night shots. I like all the little details you put into it.
The ground seems too perfect and clean to have a wall of so much graffiti behind it.

The day shots - the lighting seems odd. Have you tried lighting only with HDR spherical sky or sky probe?

Thanks. Yeah, just thought that wall filled with graffiti isn't just a "vandalised" section of a building but a result of an organised graphic competition in that park :) Btw the building is Tadao Ando's Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts  Ando's grey concrete buildings need some colors

Hmm... a little, yes. But it doesn't put any shadow just a diffused shadow :?: I'll try :D

Hey Kronox

Love the renders especially the evening shots all lit up :^:

I have an issue with the model though. To me the wheels seem about 10% too small which has dropped the car too much and made the wheel arches look too big. I know this is an M3 so the car will be lower than standard but it seems too low and draws my eyes to this more than the renders themselves :?

Thanks Dan. Well it's an M5 actually, I made it this way inspired by the Stanceworks cars, and also this other render with an M5 on stance wheels. I tried to get the same approach, since the same models have 17 inch rims but different manufacturers. You might be right though, a little bigger rims will solve the problem.

Sorry I meant M5. The Stanceworks are certainly lower but I still think the rims should be slightly larger. Check out this photo
