Render tips
Render tips
Hi Fletch,
In an attempt to create a portfolio of my work, I have created and rendered my first interior space. I would love any advice you (or anyone else) could offer.

Re: Render tips
hi dharkless,
we moved the topic to the appropriate forum.
This is looking great on this computer monitor. Nice work!
Difficult to critique: missing wall base at the line where the floor meets the wall, under the window maybe?
just a little Topaz Adjust filter - "Clarity" to give it some "punch and sharpness"
and topaz jpeg noise filter because the image got a bit noisy after filtering.

Re: Render tips
Do you know if there is any freeware out there for the topaz filter and jpeg noise filter? If there is, or even if there is not, could you make any recommendations?
Re: Render tips
There's a free version of Neat Image noise filter, I believe. It's limited by resolution I believe. But after testing Noise Ninja, Neat Image, and Topaz DeNoise I liked Topaz for most scenes with Twilight. However, others find Neat Image to be very good, so please try them out for yourself.
Topaz Denoise combines a denoise algorithm specifically designed to remove noise created by the jpeg algorithm as well as a separate algorithm for the noise similar to a camera using high ISO, or as it happens, to the progressive (unbiased) render settings in Twilight. We found that Neat Image works better than Topaz on some scenes, while Topaz seems to handle scenes with white and metal surfaces better.
Did you see your image was well-received by the Facebook community?

Re: Render tips
dharkless, you may find it useful to check this and following posts: http://twilightrender.com/phpBB3/viewto ... 731#p27731. In my workflow I use GIMP plus plugins described there, for denoise I use NeatImage. All of them are free.
P.S. Here is a quick edit of your pic, I ran Tone mapping script, then I put one layer with local contract enhancement on top of original and the duplicated the new layer and changed the mode to Overlay and reduced opacity to 35%. No noise reduction.

Re: Render tips
Hi Unclebim, are you saying that the image you edited has not been cleared of noise yet? If so, can I clear to an acceptable level using Neat image?
Thanks for the tips in regards to Gimp. I have that program and I love it. However, I am not at the level you seem to be at so thanks for information. I will try it.

Re: Render tips
Doug, I ran no noise reduction to your render. You may use Neat image to reduce noise but I believe you don't need to in this particular image. Most important thing in Neat image is to make a profile putting the rectangle on a uniform spot of color that is noisy, for instance the ceiling. Then I usually use following settings but these may vary depending on image.

Re: Render tips
How is this? I added some punch and sharpness and followed it with some noise reduction using Neat Image.
