Playing Around 3D Prints
Playing Around 3D Prints
A 3D print project, can't go into much details but it was unbelievably difficult to model haha
I won't be actually printing the green and grey objects, just figuring out a modelling technique that works for me.
With regards to rendering, I was a bit rusty with Twilight but managed to get an OK image. I de-noised it because I couldn't be bothered waiting on my ancient dual core, so some detail lost but it gets the point across.
Lighting: Studio HDRI only
Materials: Objects are Porcelain, IOR=2.4 Ground Plane is Satin Paint, no adjustments.
Couple hours to render, then de-noised in photoshop.
For Mac, the "Position Scene's View" button doesn't seem to work properly. As soon as I click it, it clips my whole model, I then have to zoom out to set my focal point which doesn't seem to give an accurate focus anyway. Any suggestions? I had to add the DOF in photoshop because it was like a pinhole render even though f number is 1.4
Thanks for looking.

Re: Playing Around 3D Prints
nice renders, Oli, but what is it going to be used for?
Re: Playing Around 3D Prints
dimensions?
Re: Playing Around 3D Prints
The inside diameter of the vertical rings and recess is 22mm.
The rest of the body is 120mm by 80mm.

you win. I give up.
Re: Playing Around 3D Prints
They are stands to hold (expensive) electronic cigarettes and accessories like the Provari. Currently the only ones you can buy look like spice racks. 22mm is the standard diameter, although I plan to bring out a range of smaller ones too for the cheaper E-Cigs.
The recessed part in the bottom is present so you can unscrew the top portion of the e-cig and place it there when you are changing coils/maintaining the device. Some of these devices cost hundreds of pounds, so people don't want to just leave them on a shelf; they need a display stand.

Haha no, they are going to be sold in the biggest electronic cigarette shop in the UK. I'll provide a link when we have our first production run, I'll be supplying everything to bulk order.Fletch wrote: it's all so clear now.

I'm not actually going to use the above design, I find it a bit "clunky", needs some refining in that state.
I've got LOTS of other models though, ceramic and stainless samples are coming soon from the printers! Some renders on the way but I gotta jump on another project for a few days.
Some models are going to be CNC milled in aluminium too.

The first range would be more like this:
