Re: Wonderful New PC's
time to buy your own parts and build your own.
Re: Wonderful New PC's
OK, nearing the end now. I have ordered a pc from Chillblast in Devon - details below.
Intel core i-7 920, 3.4ghz
Akasa Nero CPU Cooler
6gb ddr3 @ 1600mhz
Radeon hd 4890 1024mb
1 x 1tb hdd
1 x 500gb hdd
8gb usb 2.0 readyboost memory
windoze vista home premium 64 vouchered for windoze 7 premium 64
There are other bits in the total spec but I think that about does it for the rendering side, have I blown my readies on a donkey or a race horse?

Yes Gaieus, that bit hurt somewhat, Considering that I have saved for this machine since I bought the last one seven years ago. The total package cost was in the area of £1,200.00. Not to be sneezed at with the way things are. I do not have the time or ability or place to build my own machine and when you allow for the fact that any home build has the risk of breakages, I can live with it.
I did add a few things that were not exactly essential like a sound card for example. Not a requirement but I like to have sounds in my office and in my small space another piece of kit would just not fit in.
I also feel satisfied that the previous hastle is in the past and while this is costing me a fair bit more have had to put it behind me and move on. Cannot be a grouch after all.

Well, mine was about £ 800 (though including a 22" monitor and a Windows XP OS, too) and obviously less powerful, so this time and a half difference seems to be justified by the build, too. If I'd had the money when I bought it, I may have also considered something like yours.
Have better luck with it than with the other one and let's see some stunning rendering times!

Don't worry too much about hardware. Moore's Law is always making sure whatever we buy today is obsolete tomorrow...
