Aren't these just beautiful?
Playing around with some low pressure soduim bulbs I got, and damn do they look pretty I also think it's pretty impressive how despite them being invented almost 100 years ago they are still more efficient than most LED lamps are today.
They also take about 10 mins to fully power up so I chopped the video up a bit.
Now, this one is just 35w, so next step would be to get a 180w one (which is like 5 feet long) and hang it from the ceiling

So much for "New = good and old = bad" mentality of the society we live in. I had a Matsui microwave which I bout in 1988 for £140, it lasted until 2015 when my other half finally killed it by puttin metal items in it. When she finally admitted to doing it deliberately she said "I just wanted something new". A full sized microwave made into toast for 'I want'.

This is going to make me sound and feel old but, there are a lot of people in the world with a want mentality. I am now going to sit in the corner and say, "I am a spoiled brat" until it sinks in, mind you, my pc lives in the corner of the room too.......

That's kinda sad to hear .. I usually go with the idea of "Don't fix what isn't broken". The only two reasons I'll buy something new is if it breaks/ wears out, or there is a new thing with the features I really need.

RTDLabs just beautifully summed up my thoughts on Operating Systems, and software in general! Planned obsolescence is an obscenity, even if I do understand the economic decisions behind it...
Oh, and those bulbs are gorgeous. I think I could actually render something like that, (in Twilight) at this point...
