More of my weird practice stuff. Rendered on Easy 10. Saved as an .hdr. Post pro in Affinity Photo. I think I’m starting to wrap my head around all of Affinity’s tone mapping adjustments. Maybe :! Might mess with the lighting and run it again or just might move on to something else. Cheers :hat:

ran the cable, but forgot to plug your camera in.

Maybe try to use a projector with a caustics texture to give the impression more strongly that it's under water?

Thanks Mike.

Fletch just pretend everyone went home for the day and unplugged the equipment  Actually spent hours trying to find reference pics on how those old cameras where wired up, even found the manual for the actual one I modeled. Nothing on how you plug one up :wall: . Like your idea on the projector thing. Tried experimenting with a “water plane” below the low power emitter that’s in the top of the tank, couldn’t seem to get much that way. Might fool about with it some more, but these twelve plus hour renders are kind of a pain at times  :hat:

I hear you.

I was inspired to try to do the caustics thing to see if it works.
Here's what I have so far.

Fletch, As we say where I come from “I’m shit out of luck” on using the fancy new post processing stuff. I’m kind of stuck on an older Twilight version due to my old iMac. Still going to experiment on this though. Fool about with the water effect and want to try some different things with the monsters skin , get a little more “pop” to it.

This is a challenging scene to create and you've done an amazing job!
I really like your concept and admire the work you put into it. :^:

As an avid spearfisherman/freediver I love underwater scenes, and have tried a few years back to create one but failed to get something I was happy with. They are challenging for sure.

side note: I built this hammerhead shark seen in this tank as my first model ever built in Blender a couple years back. Because building it in SketchUp would be out of the question for me. No matter what I do, I cannot get the textures for the body to export to open in SketchUp. :!

Cool shark model Fletch. I remember seeing when you first posted it. Still playing with this thing. Finally found some reference for how the power cables run on that Mitchell movie camera. Only took six odd hours of digging on the internet  . Adding a little detail here and there, fooling about with lights and the texture set up for the monsters skin….
Sort of ambivalent about “special effects “ to the water in the tank. I actually have quite a bit of experience around very large aquariums on my old job. Most people would be shocked at the amount of work that goes into lighting, special plumbing to disturb the water surface etc. just to jazz up the look for the paying customers. Turn all that off and turn up the house lights and it’s not much different than fish in your bathtub   :hat:

Had another go at this… made some texture and lighting adjustments. Moved some things a little. Like it better than the first go…. :! Plan to mess about with it some more….. :totgm:

Great concept and cool rendering. I think lighting and tone mapping is going to be important for getting the mood/telling the story. keep it going!
