I installed the app on my iPad and scanned a War Hammer model my grandson had built. It was kind of easy (although I made some mistakes). I have the file but I cannot share it (got to learn about that part yet).

How do I determine if my iPhone has LiDAR capability? Is that part of the Scaniverse app?

If your device has a small dark circle about 6mm or 1/4" in diameter on the bottom right of the camera module, then it supports LiDAR.
And yes, it says on the app as well.

And as for sharing, there's a share button at the bottom right of the screen when you're viewing the model.
Press that, then 'Export Model', and choose the file type. From there, you can airdrop to your Mac (if you have one) or email to yourself and access it from your PC. Or however you like.

I found out my iPhone does not support it but my iPad does.

I created a model, now I need to save it somewhere. When I go to the app, I can see the model in the app. I was wondering why I cannot see the file anywhere using the file facility on the iPad. Where are the model files stored? If I want to create an obj file, can I save it here on my iPad?

Even though I made some mistakes when I scanned my grandson’s War Hammer model, I am really impressed with the results and am looking forward to some future tries.

In one of the videos I also saw something like the floor plan for a home or apartment. Can that really be done?

OK, I just created/saved a file (obj file). However, it saved it as a zip file which was the only option I saw.

I posted a link to this topic on the SketckUcation LiDAR Scanning with Scaniverse and created a thread over there to see if we can get some posts. Hope others participate over there as well.

Very cool! I see the model is not perfect, but seems like you can bring it into Blender and/or Meshmixer and clean it up easily enough.

Shame that Meshmixer is now being discontinued. If anyone is interested in a decent simple model edititor you may want to download it now.

Blender is free, future-proof, (unbroken free development since 2002) and a wonderful program with a great community.

Yes, and since using it, the technology has been slotting into my workflow perfectly.
I can pull rough measurements directly from the model, with an accuracy of about ±1cm for every 5m.
In that case, I can confidently plan the next design phase, and create drawings for my workers quite easily.
And if I need a more accurate datum, I can just reference it with a pocket laser meter reading. The also app allows me to post directly to Sketchfab, meaning I can share 1 link with my client and they can see the up-to-date progress of the project.

I see, I have to care about a new iphone...
