Here's my results from my new 2.4Ghz i5 Retina Macbook Pro 13".

I can definitely see an advantage in upgrading a computer regularly, my last laptop was a top of the line 2010 2.66Ghz i7 Macbook Pro. This new one is a 2.4 i5 (the base spec) and yet it's 30% quicker rendering the scene!!

hmm.... there is something wrong with that i7 machine. The 2.66Ghz i7 should have a time around 31-34 seconds (see similar machine specs in other posts in this thread)

I think the laptop version might differ from the desktop one and possibly be run at a lower power? I had the whole logic board of the laptop replaced a month or so before doing those tests and the laptop has been performing flawlessly. Heat did have some bearing on the time (when started from cold, the laptop achieved the times posted, however when continuously run through the test for 4 or 5 times, it ended up adding a couple of extra seconds).

Also the Geekbench scores for both the laptops show the i7 2.66 with a score of 4000 and my current i5 2.4 with a score of 5300. This shows the new laptop is a more powerful machine and as the i5 2.4 completed the Bauhaus Lamp in 41 seconds, it shows the i7 2.66 in my laptop is probably right as it's not less than the desktop time of 31-34 seconds.

We have seen i5 machines beat i7 machines on this very test.

It turned out that the cooling for the i7 was insufficient resulting in engaging the i7's safety throttle. It simply continues rendering and appears to be rendering properly but it is not. There is no obvious notification given by the system when the i7 throttles down. When an after-market cooler was installed into the i7 machine, the proper speed was achieved. This problem is bigger with laptops which do not have a lot of room for proper cooling, and a cooling pad is required in some cases (like with the high-powered i7s which are notorious for running hot.)

Hi to all, I'm a architect transitioning from 3DMax, and learning the ropes in TR, fantastic program and support!, here is my speed test (hope I have the right format).

After a lot of :wall: , including three dead machines  , and two HDD crashes  , I FINALLY got my render machine!

AMD FX-8350 8-core @4.oo GHz
16 GB RAM
GeForce GTX760 (2GB)

:whoot: .

So after a few kerfluffles with trying to get back into my account, change the password, update my email addy and so forth, I'm finally back. And, I decided to finally run the test scene.
So, here's my results:
SpookyChick's Test.png
SpookyChick's Test.png (241.83 KiB) Viewed 15924 times
Ran a second test @ full 64 threads, just because I could  The results were interesting.
Twilight finished in 11 seconds, but then sat there saying antialiasing 99% for another 41 seconds while slowly winding down from all those threads.
So in the end, it took 20 seconds longer, because of all the threads.

Anyway, the upshot is, I have a machine I'm proud of, and proud to post speed test results.

Edited because I forgot to list processor speed!
