Raise your hand if you miss the ability to download satellite imagery and terrain inside SketchUp.
When the 5 year agreement between Trimble and Google expired in May, all SketchUp Make users lost the ability to download satellite and terrain images. Basically they were left with only being able to download some simple streetmaps (and no terrain on that!). Since we had already released our Terrain Tools AddOn, we thought maybe we can provide users with something very much like SketchUp's old geo-location feature. That ability, though, revolved around whether there were publicly available sources of mapping data. We could provide the tool, of course, but it wouldn't be very useful if you had to pay a third party for access to their maps. On top of that, companies like Google Maps and Bing Maps don't generally allow their maps to be used in other applications.
We spent a loooong time looking at all the available mapping sources to see if there were reliable servers that could cover most, if not all, of the globe. And there is a lot out there, and a lot of it either doesn't work or doesn't work well! But eventually we compiled a good list, learned all the different mapping protocols (do you have any idea how many different kinds of mapping projections there are?!), worked out all the network code, and put it all together for V2.10 of Twilight Render!
The new release is primarily a major update to the Terrain Tools AddOn. If you aren't familiar with it, or AddOns in general, please take a look at these links.

Basically, for users of Twilight Render V2 Professional who have purchased the Terrain AddOn, you will get access to the new mapping features by upgrading to V2.10 (available here: https://www.twilightrender.com/index.ph ... ds/upgrade). If you have already purchased the AddOn, you will have access to it as soon as you install the V2.10 upgrade. If you haven't yet purchased the AddOn, you can buy it from our webstore here: https://www.twilightrender.com/index.php/buy-top.
Note that all AddOns require an activated license for Twilight Render V2 Professional.
You can learn more about it in the newly expanded Terrain Tools tutorial here: https://www.twilightrender.com/index.ph ... ls-terrain.
Scroll down until you reach the "Downloading Terrain and Imagery" section.
