Your move.

Post by Boofredlay » Wed Oct 21, 2009 11:37 am

I did this wobble chess board a while back and decided to render it last night.
The design is not mine but I did model it.

Yes I did this with Podium a year or so ago. However for this one I completely re-vamped the board. The Podium render was very low poly and this one is already over 50,000 polys. A big oops however, while smoothing it out I got the light and dark squares mixed up and the board is not correct. Oh well. I'll fix it if I do another render.
About the table, yes I guess I should round those edges a bit, thanks. I guess I was more focused on the board. It is the little things I always miss.

Ok, I updated the board, smoothed some edges, added a base to the chess board to give it some weight and changed the chair.
Whatcha think?

I am affraid that you must make another render
Pieces are not on the good side ;)
In classical play King is always the bigger size and has the cross (so it's good) so your first play is E2 E4
And at the start the Queen is always on its color! :o
But see your image it's D2 D4 ! :o
It's very pertubating for a chess player (chees player)

You can answer that is a retrograde analysis problem but I doubt that is that you want make
And don't know if this position has a solution ;)

ps I understand your error of the first post: original had the same

thats so much better. the rounded edges look great, adds more interest too.

I think you need a little more contrast in the image maybe and perhaps the chess board would have more reflection?

Sorry about the crit, I didn't mean to offend if I did....I thought you may want constructive feedback. Sometimes people take it the worng way...

I did do a quick PP to show you what I meant but I reverted back to original by mistake without saving

Which template did you use for wood table? looks v nice although I would a touch more bump.

I have a method for adding these sly wood 'scratches' to the bumpmap here:
