A break down of the '+' render setting preset

I had not seen this asked before, but I was wondering what the difference between say the Med and Med+ render preset is. When would one want to use the "+" setting versus the standard setting? I understand this can be found with trial and error renders to see differences, but the differences may not be as visually obvious. I am wondering if someone could give a quick little description for me.
