New Version

Post by olishea » Thu Nov 19, 2009 6:20 pm

Hi guys,

I recently installed the new version of twilight. I previously rendered a scene (large 52MB model) with the old version and it rendered fine, no problems.

Then I click render with the new version and it crashes just after the 'processing geometry' stage (right before it starts ray tracing)...every time.

Any ideas why?

I would post the model but it's too large.

Nothings really changed in the area of memory (or rendering for that matter). Have you added any new libraries? Are you running other applications that take up memory (firefox is a hog)?

well i'm running through vmware on mac so maybe that's why (2gb ram dedicated to windows). I did have photoshop and SU open in the mac partition........but no new libraries or anything.

I'll try again tomorrow, cheers for the quick reply its much appreciated.

Generally twilight is very stable....is it always memory to blame when it (very rarely) crashes?

There was an issue with repeated material library entries, but that caused a crash immediately on opening SU. (which has been fixed)
Otherwise, the only issues we've been able to verify are memory problems, either from very large renders, very large texture images, or just overall too big of a scene.

Oli,
if it happens again, try re-installing the .19 version, and re-render. If it renders ok, then let us know.

sorted.

the problem was a very large arroway texture compounded with large render size. I replaced texture with another and it works fine now.

cheers for help guys. I will post the renders when they are done.
